Megan Gathers - Private Yoga Lessons in Your Own Home Available in San Francisco

Since the stay at home order went into effect in April of 2020, Megan has transferred all of her private yoga clients to virtual sessions. She's truly pleased with how well this works, and her cat Grace is enjoying her frequent cameos. Using Zoom, she is able to give feedback and personal attention in a way that feels surprisingly intimate and effective. All you need is a laptop or phone with a camera and an internet connection. You do not need a Zoom account or any special equipment.

All of her classes emphasize trusting your intuition and building confidence in yourself and your ability to move with freedom. At such a universally challenging time, she is honored to offer remote sessions to soothe your body and mind alike.

About your Lesson

Your private Yoga lesson will be tailored to meet your body and your needs. Megan begins each lesson with an assessment of how you are feeling in the moment. Megan uses an encouraging voice and gentle touch to guide you into proper alignment. After your lesson, you will feel balanced, calm, and energized.

Megan teaches a Hatha blend and incorporates flowing sequences, partner stretching, and elements of Thai massage when appropriate. Megan introduces the practices of Yoga by developing physical and emotional awareness through relaxation and a focus on breathing. Students learn Yoga from a personal awareness of their unique body/mind without competition or expectations of any kind and with a deep respect of the body/mind and spirit.

Megan’s specialty is working with beginners and people who are fairly new to Yoga. You do not need to be flexible in order to practice Yoga! Megan will travel to your home or office space at your convenience.  All you need is a space large enough for your own Yoga mat. If you would like to share your Yoga journey with a friend or partner and you have the space in your home, feel free to invite them for the same lesson price.

Do you like to practice under a blue sky? On a warm day, you may choose to have your lesson outdoors in one of San Francisco’s beautiful parks or even in your own backyard.


Private Vs. Group

As you may have noticed, if you want to take a Yoga class, there are numerous styles to choose from. From trendy to traditional, here in San Francisco we have access to many different styles. What you may not know is that the whole concept of a Yoga "class" is relatively new as compared to the history of the practice. For centuries Yoga was not taught in group classes, but as a one-on-one practice.

Private Yoga lessons are a wonderful way for beginners to set a solid foundation of integrated breathing, correct alignment and healthy habits. Asking questions as they arise and receiving immediate feedback is an effective way to cultivate a thriving and sustainable practice.


Hatha Yoga Defined

The word Hatha comes from combining the two Sanskrit terms "ha" meaning sun and "tha" meaning moon. Yoga itself is defined as union, thus Hatha Yoga is a union of the sun and moon. This is symbolic for balancing opposing forces in the body, for example the inhalation and exhalation, and the masculine energy (sun) and feminine energy (moon), thus producing balance and greater power in an individual.

Hatha Yoga is an ancient practice originating in India approximately 6,000 years ago. Hatha Yoga uses deep relaxation, diaphragmatic breathing, stretching and strengthening exercises to support physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
